Spur rack tooth profile used on agricultural equipment racks
Core Selling Points
· Material chosen for the environment: galvanised steel outdoors, stainless steel in wash-down and corrosive barns, nylon where noise and corrosion matter more than load.
· Spur teeth, 20 deg pressure angle, M1.5-M4 for typical farm duty.
· Lengths up to 2000 mm, drilled to your frame; joinable for longer travel.
· Matching pinions in steel, stainless or nylon.
· Slide gates on grain bins and silos
· Rail-guided feeding carts and feed pushers in livestock barns
· Barn doors and sorting gates
· Adjustment mechanisms on seeders, sprayers and harvest equipment
· Irrigation and water-control gates
Agricultural equipment rarely needs high rack accuracy. What kills racks on a farm is corrosion: rain, fertiliser dust, ammonia in livestock houses, and high-pressure washing. The material and surface finish matter more than the tooth grade.
Hot-dip galvanising gives a sacrificial zinc layer that keeps protecting cut edges and small scratches. It is applied after machining; the zinc layer adds thickness on the tooth flanks, so the teeth are cut with the coating allowance in mind. Stainless steel avoids coating altogether: 304 and 316 resist corrosion well (316 adds molybdenum for better chloride resistance) but cannot be hardened by heat treatment, so they suit light loads. Where load and corrosion both matter, hardenable 420 stainless is the option. Nylon racks are quiet, light and corrosion-free but carry the least load.
